Marriage Licenses

A Connecticut marriage license can only be obtained from the Connecticut town in which the ceremony will be performed. Parties must be married within 65 days from the date the license is issued and there is NO blood test required. It is the couple's responsibility to make all arrangements for an officiant. The Town Clerk's office does not perform any ceremony; it only issues the appropriate license. Couples can email the completed application, or print it out and complete the marriage license application before you appear in the office. A list of Justices of the Peace and the application can be found using the links above.

Please arrive prior to 4:00 pm to ensure you receive your license that same day and save time in our office by filling out your marriage application at home.

C.G.S. § 46b-22 lists persons authorized to perform marriages in Connecticut. Authorized officiators are: all judges, including out-of-state judges who are authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in their jurisdictions;  family support magistrates, state referees and justices of the peace who are appointed in Connecticut; and all ordained or licensed members of the clergy, belonging to this state or any other state. Persons ordained on-line and who are given the authority to officiate marriages through such ordination, DO meet the statutory requirements. Both parties to the marriage must be in the physical presence of the officiator at the time the ceremony is being performed.
