Marriage Licenses

As of October 1, 2009, a Connecticut marriage license can only be obtained from the Connecticut town in which the ceremony will be performed. Parties must be married within 65 days from the date the license is issued and there is NO blood test required. It is the couple's responsibility to make all arrangements for an officiant. The Town Clerk's office does not perform any ceremony; it only issues the appropriate license. Couples can also print out and complete the marriage license application before you appear in the office. A list of Justices of the Peace and the application can be found using the links above.

Please arrive prior to 4:00 pm to ensure you receive your license that same day and save time in our office by filling out your marriage application at home.

What to Bring

There is no waiting period to obtain the marriage license, however, both parties must appear in person to apply. Please bring with you the following:

  • Driver’s license with current address and photo (The address presented on the marriage application must be the address on your I.D. Change of address sticker on the back of license is sufficient)
  • $70.00 cost by cash or check made payable to Town Clerk (this fee includes one certified copy for your records)

And that’s it! Congratulations, you are one step closer to your special day!

You do not need:

  • Birth Certificates
  • Divorce Papers
  • Passports
  • Blood Test
