Road Work: Great Hammock Road Closure Spring 2024

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) will be performing extensive repair work to the Back River bridge on Great Hammock Road in 2024. The bridge, which is in poor condition, carries traffic over the Back River and repairs must be made to ensure public safety. Great Hammock Road will be closed to through traffic during construction beginning Tuesday, September 3, 2024 and extend no later than Tuesday, November 26, 2024. This will be a complete road closure which will allow the contractor to finish the work within the allotted contractual time frame. In pre-construction meetings, it was determined that leaving one lane open for traffic would add months to the completion of this work and increase costs significantly. Additionally, in preparation for the work over the Back River this fall, a road closure will occur this spring from Monday, April 15, 2024 until Sunday, May 5, 2024. If there are any changes in the construction schedule, an additional press release will be issued.
