Press Release from Old Saybrook First Selectman Carl P. Fortuna, Jr.

By now, most everyone’s lives have been affected by Covid 19, also known as the corona virus. Whether it is school being cancelled or meetings postponed, most of us are experiencing disruption to our lives. By all accounts, this is likely to continue for some time.

  • As of last evening, Governor Lamont has ordered that people shall not congregate in groups larger than five. Please adhere to this as it is an effective way to stop community spread of this virus. Those who do not adhere to this will jeopardize the use of our community spaces- beaches, parks and play areas- for all.
  • If you have recently moved your family to Old Saybrook from another location—any location—please consider sheltering in place for 14 days to prevent further community spread. With so many second homes in our community, this has become an area of major concern for our town.
  • Lastly, if you need any assistance and cannot or do not want to venture outside your home for food, medicine, pet care, etc., please let me know. You may call me at 860-395-3123 and your call will be returned. There are many people in this community who want to help others.

Thank you for your understanding during this unusual situation. Let’s remember, this is temporary. Better (and more normal) times lie ahead. Here is some additional information:

  • Please know that the best source of Public Health information is the CDC website.   www.cdc.gov
  • Be wary of Coronavirus scams.  If you believe you are and have been subject to a scam, please contact the police department – 860-395-3142
  • At the recommendation of the CDC please ensure that you have an ample supply of food, medications, and sanitary supplies.   Social services resources are available for those in need.  Call Youth and Family at 860-395-3190.
