Zoom - About Displayed Participant Names

The only person able to "permanently" modify what a Zoom account displays when connecting to a meeting is the Zoom account owner themself.

The Old Saybrook Zoom Administrator is "just another general Zoom user". As just another Zoom user the Town does not have the ability to modify your own personal Zoom account profile or information.

During a live Zoom meeting, meeting hosts do have the ability to temporarily modify the name displayed during that specific meeting, but they certainly to not have access to modify an attendee's personal Zoom account profile.

The current Town practice is to only update the temporary display names during a meeting when a telephone user identifies themselves, replacing the phone number with the person’s name. This change is for the single meeting, at that time only, and goes away after the meeting is finished.

If you have a personal Zoom account, you can update the “display name” setting…

  1. Using a web browser, go to http://zoom.us and sign in using your Zoom username (typically your email address).
  2. In “My Account" go to the Personal - Profile section.
  3. Select “Edit” on the far right next to your name and profile picture.
  4. Update the “Display Name”’
  5. Scroll down to the bottom and hit the “Save Changes” button.
