K-9 Skye
The Old Saybrook Department of Police Services has had an active K-9 program since 1997. From 1997 to 2022, the Department had six (6) K-9’s all of which were German Shepard’s. K-9’s assets are vital in Law Enforcement and have proven to be invaluable in the past. They allow for many different usages and implementations for the K-9 and the handler. In the past the Old Saybrook Police Department has had K-9’s trained in tracking, evidence recovery, and narcotic detection. Patrol K-9’s assist in suspect apprehension, alarms / building clearing, missing person searches, and article / evidence recovery.
In 2022, the Department obtained and certified their first ever Labrador Retriever. Detective First Class Williams is the assigned handler for K-9 Skye. K-9 Skye is 2 years old and is trained in Narcotic Detection. K-9 Skye has been certified in Narcotic Detection by the Connecticut State Police K-9 Unit according to NESPAC standards since May of 2022. K-9 Skye has a proven track record, having successfully located Narcotic Substances in training as well as during the course of active investigations. These substances include heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), and methamphetamines.
